Hertfordshire’s Mathematics Advisory Team Awarded National CPD Standard New

netcm logoThe Standards and School Effectiveness Mathematics Advisory team have been awarded a Continuing Professional Development Standard by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM).

NCETM is a Government-funded initiative which aims to improve teaching and learning in at all stages of mathematics.  The NCETM is also a hub for professional networking and collaborative development of successful practice.

The purpose of a mathematics-specific CPD Standard is to help teachers of mathematics at all levels, and their institutions, to access high quality CPD provision.

Samantha BurnsSamantha Burns, Hertfordshire’s Mathematics County Adviser, said “We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious standard in recognition of the high quality mathematics CPD work that we undertake in Hertfordshire.”

“Standards and School Effectiveness provides extensive support for individual teachers, teaching assistants, departments, schools and parents in raising standards in mathematics. We design and deliver exciting, engaging and imaginative training that inspires our teachers to be more creative in planning and delivering mathematics lessons.”

“The CPD standard means that schools and academies can be confident that our Mathematics CPD programme will meet the professional aspirations and needs of all teachers of mathematics and realise the potential of learners through a sustainable national infrastructure for mathematics-specific continuing professional development.”

Bringing Statistics to Life in the Classroom: The 2011 CensusAtSchool Project

One way of bringing statistics to life for young minds to explore is to make statistics about them, their family and their friends. What time do you get up? How tall are you? How do you get to school?

The aims of the 2011 CensusAtSchool project are to:

  • help improve the statistical literacy of school aged learners;
  • provide teachers with real data and free resources that use statistics across the curriculum;
  • provide teachers with opportunities for free CPD in ICT and statistics;
  • raise awareness about the need for and importance of population censuses.

Getting involved
There are three ways in which your school can get involved in the 2011 Census AtSchool Project:

  • register your school and take part;
  • enter the 2011 CensusAtSchool national competition;
  • become a Champion School and lead the project in several schools in your area.
Sign up for free access to resources and classroom activities:
