Using iPads in the Curriculum

Are you getting the most from your school iPads? Do you need training to make sure you are maximising your investment? Or are you preparing to invest and need some guidance? Do you want to run an iPad workshop in your school but do not have the equipment? .

If you are thinking about purchasing iPads for your school, there are a lot of things to take into consideration before making this significant investment, and Herts for Learning has a huge amount of experience in implementing this technology in education settings. We can offer you advice and guidance in order to help you make the right decisions.

If your school has already purchased iPads and you are not sure how to get the best from them across the curriculum, the Herts for Learning Computing Advisers can offer advice and support to get you started, with demonstrations of different activities and apps, and how they can be used to support teaching and learning

We also run iPad awareness sessions for parents, as a way of helping them engage more with their child’s learning or understand better how school iPads can engage and motivate children. Would you like us to run a themed session with your pupils/students? These sessions are a great way of learning for both children, and teachers and support staff who can take part in the lessons, learning as they go along.

For example, we’ve run movie trailer making days, using the iPads for both filming and editing the movies, games making workshops and digital story writing sessions, inspired by iPad games. With an Apple Distinguished Educator in our team, we can offer a full iPad INSET service, tailored to your specific needs with sessions lasting from a 1 ˝ hours to a full day.

We can provide the iPads if needed, so you can try out a range of apps before you buy. Or alternatively, come along to one our courses held at Hertfordshire Development Centre, where iPads will be provided for the session.

And don’t forget that Schools IT Systems Support (SITSS) also offer a full iPad technical set-up service to get your devices all ready for the classroom.

Please call 01438 844893 to discuss your school’s requirements or email Chris Carter, eDevelopments Adviser, on chris.carter@hertsforlearning.co.uk

Computing Scheme Planning

Subscribed to the HfL Computing Scheme, but having trouble with your computing planning?

The Computing Curriculum Team is here to help. We can work with your teaching staff in your school, providing individual or year group team support according to your school's needs. During each session, we work through the learning themes the staff will be teaching, objective by objective, and discussing how to structure and present the lessons. We will talk about and demonstrate resources and show how these can be used in the lesson. The support can be structured in any way which helps your school and your staff, and can be anything from two hours to the whole day.
