Review

The new format of our conference has proved to be a real success with delegates finding the day to be “inspiring” and leaving the conference with “lots of ideas”.

Our keynote speaker, Russell Prue, provided a lively and challenging keynote speech, which included many practical ideas to excite and engage both pupils and teachers.  He demonstrated a number of realistic ways in which teachers can utilise the ICT already being used by pupils and he suggested how teachers can exploit and harness technologies and resources to impact on learning. Russell concluded his speech with an energetic demonstration of dance mat technology!

This year delegates were able to attend three seminars based around the theme of ‘Creating learning opportunities in and out of the classroom’.  The increased range and number of sessions proved to make the day a real success.  At the end of the day we all left with many ideas and some delegates were already thinking about “getting into podcasting”.  We look forward to hearing of their success.

Mindball was also a great success... Did you have a go?

Sandra from the ICT Team in Action...Mindball is a game in which two players compete to push a ball over the other's goal line. But there's a catch--this is a game of mind over matter and the way to win is to relax. Each player is wired up to an electroencephalogram (EEG) machine which records the electrical activity in the brain. Certain frequencies of signal are associated with different mental activities--for example, gamma waves with a frequency above 26 Hz are associated with higher mental activities such as problem solving.

To win at Mindball, however, you need to produce theta waves (4-8 Hz) which are associated with drowsiness and alpha waves (8-12 Hz) which are associated with being relaxed. So the more relaxed you are, the better you're going to be at this game.

We are already planning the next conference and, yes, Oscar will be back.
