This competition provides an opportunity for pupils to create a digital film of no more than 3 minutes around the theme of walking or cycling to school as part of the Walk to School campaign.
Prizes of cameras and software are being donated by Hertfordshire County Council Health and Safety Team and Tag Learning.

Pupils can use any camera for this work. ‘Digital Blue’ cameras are available for loan, if required, from the Resources Library at Hertfordshire Development Centre.

Last year, pupils were asked to use digital film to creating an advertisement promoting walking or cycling to school.

Requirements

Films must:

  • Be digital and be around the theme of walking or cycling to school

  • be no more than 3 minutes

  • be planned and made by the pupils themselves. (Younger pupils may receive help with editing but this must be acknowledged)

  • be suitable for viewing by family audiences

With your film include a statement (150 words max), from the pupils who made it, setting out:

  • the messages their advert aims to deliver and to whom

  • what they think of using digital fi lm as a way to get a message across

Any soundtrack must be original in composition or copyright free

Judging Criteria

Films will be judged primarily on how they engage the audience, the use of appropriate techniques and skills and the clarity of the message and/or story.

Dates

  • Closing date for film submission is 5.00pm Friday 12 December 2008
  • Winning entries will be informed by 30 January 2009
  • Prizes will be presented at Campus West on 2 March 2009

Submission of Entries

  • One entry per school
  • All entries to be submitted as an .avi file format on DVD/CD Rom
  • Any pupils who appear on the films will need to have a completed and signed agreement form (a copy of which must be submitted)

All entries must be accompanied with:

  • a completed and signed entry form
  • a brief children’s evaluation
