Congratulations to John Rutherford at Francis Combe! This year, one of Hertfordshire's schools won the Secondary Teaching Awards >>> |
ICT in Practice AwardsThe ICT in Practice Awards aim to identify models of excellent practice and use these to develop and promote effective practice in the use of ICT in teaching, learning and leadership. The Awards allow us to share this information with the wider teaching community while rewarding individuals who demonstrate exemplary practice in ICT.
Francis Combe's John Rutherford won great praise from the BECTA judges for his work which aimed to develop the independence of students when using ICT.
The judges noted that:
''John is truly innovative in his use of ICT in teaching and learning at a school which has challenging circumstances. One of his major achievements has been to create and refine a way of working which enables students to be independent and self-sufficient in their learning and to enjoy a personalised learning programme. This is delivered through a 160-station ICT room created from five former classrooms, which has successfully resolved ICT timetabling problems. This radical approach means that teachers in ICT lessons are now true facilitators of learning activity, there to assist students as and when required, but not acting as the fulcrum of the lesson. In any one lesson students can be working on a wide range of tasks appropriate to their ability and progress.'
John was also commended for his role in raising the ICT skills of the staff and the quality of ICT delivery across the curriculum. He leads by example, sharing his skills and practices with colleagues at every opportunity.
