School No: 046 Whitehill Literacy Art & ICT Project
Present dialogues inspired by Renoir’s ‘The Umbrellas’ painting. This project at Whitehill Junior School (046) in Hitchin was undertaken as part of the National Portrait Gallery’s ‘Take One Picture’. A film was made bringing the characters in the painting to life. Class teacher Anna Beresford asked the year 6 children to look at the painting and to empathise with the characters. Using clues from the painting they imagined what they might be thinking, feeling or saying. Dialgoues were written for pairs of characters depicted in the painting. Some children wrote a monologue.
The children recorded their scripts using Audacity.
Sharon Cooper explained the mechanics of Crazytalk. The Children imported sections of the photograph into the puppeteering software. Using the detailed facial mode they lined up the anchor points to animate their chosen character. Their pre-recorded script was imported and relevant emotions were added to enhance their scripts. Everyone saved their short film clip. Using Windows Movie maker each pupil’s film was pieced together with background music from:
