eSafety
If you haven’t already looked, CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection) have created a range of resources to support teachers, parents and pupils of Key Stages 2 – 4. They will be launching their resources for KS1 very soon.
Hector The Protector
The Hector's World Safety Button™ is a simple executable file which you can download for free. The file installs a swimming Hector's World™ character in the upper right-hand corner of the computer screen. A child can just click on Hector (or one of his friends) who then covers the screen with a beautiful underwater scene and gives the child a positive written message for clicking on the character, while encouraging them to get adult help.
There are different format versions available to download.
Byron Review:
Safer Children in a Digital World
In 2007, the Prime Minister asked Dr Tanya Byron to conduct an independent review looking at the risks to children from exposure to potentially harmful or inappropriate material on the internet and in video games.
The Review is about the needs of children and young people. It is about preserving their right to take the risks that form an inherent part of their development by enabling them to play video games and surf the net in a safe and informed way.
The results were published at the end of March this year, with some interesting recommendations being made. PDF versions of the Full Report, Annexes and supporting documentation are available, as well as a summary for children.
ICT Clusters
ICT Clusters are a great way of networking with ICT subject leaders or anyone interested in ICT. The clusters are free of charge and held at locations across Hertfordshire. The invitation is open to all. Feel free to come to the meeting most convenient to you.
We hold six cluster sessions, one in each area (North, South, East and West) and two at HDC.
Move to Stevenage
The team are looking forward to being able to offer courses at our new location in Stevenage, Robertson House in the Autumn. More...
Courses held at the Hertfordshire Development Centre in Wheathampstead for the summer term can be found at the end of this newsletter. Don’t forget that we can always run similar or bespoke training in your school, or for a cluster of schools.
Please contact us to discuss how we can help.
