Cross Curricular ICT

Cross-curricular ICT is essential to develop pupils ICT capability in other subjects and provide essential skills for the workplace.  Cross-curricular ICT will ensure that the pupils have a better understanding of the contexts where ICT can be applied and used effectively.  Pupils will become increasingly more familiar and understand the benefits that ICT has for their own learning and future careers as they make increasing usage of it across the curriculum.  Cross-curricular ICT should always have an emphasis on working independently and being creative.

Hertfordshire have produced a series of tracking tools which help schools identify when they are effectively embedding ICT across the curriculum.  It also ensures that the national curriculum programme of study for ICT and other subjects is being taught effectively across the curriculum.

It may be useful for you to have an ICT adviser visit the school and provide you with some ideas of cross-curricular ICT projects and also help you plan cross-curricular ICT opportunities ensuring that any form of ICT tracking is effective for your school.

Things to think about:

  • Don’t forget it’s essential that your school deliver the KS4 ICT programme of study also and you need to have some way of tracking that this is being delivered!
  • You may also want to consider how you could use the Learning Platform or Moodle for monitoring and developing cross-curricular ICT
