ICT in the Primary FrameworkICT can have a significant impact upon the quality of learning and teaching. This is reflected in its raised profile within the renewed Primary Frameworks. Much of the guidance regarding skills and competencies, especially within literacy, is new. As such, it is expected that schools will seize the opportunity to undertake a programme of professional development to embed the use of ICT to effectively support learning and teaching. Schools will need to carefully consider how the renewal of the framework, the CPD programmes supporting the frameworks will help staff to develop ICT fluency. For example, if a school has chosen the theme of ‘enhancing literacy’, ICT could become a focus of exploration and further development within PDMs 2 and 3. Schools and teachers are asked to consider (PDM2):
Schools and teachers would be asked to develop the use of ICT using opportunities such as joint planning and peer observations (PDM3). The following document contains extracts taken from the exemplified units within the Literacy section of the Primary Framework. They demonstrate the extent to which ICT could be used to enhance children’s learning. They have been grouped according to the type of technology being used and the skill set required. In the mathematics section of the Primary Framework, all 90 units of work have a set of ICT resources linked to them. The Handling Data strand, however, has specific learning objectives that require the use of ICT. ICT in the Primary Framework
