Introduction

A Study visit to China over the Easter break, by a group of Hertfordshire Teachers.

A group will set off for China on Monday 25th March 2002, bound for Hong Kong and then the city of Guangzhou.

The trip is part of the Teachers' International Professional Development (TIPD) programme run by the British Council. It's a Study visit on the theme of 'ICT in education', and is led by Pat Williams - SIAS ICT Adviser.

You can see the whole groups aims we have given our Chinese hosts for our visit here...

Pat, together with nine teachers will form a project group examining this theme. The teachers are from four schools in Hertfordshire, 3 primary and 1 secondary. The group will visit schools, meet key workers and engage in detailed review and assessment of the pedagogy and practice seen. Team teaching with Chinese colleagues & participating in seminars may also be a feature of the visit. All participants aim to make key contacts in the schools in order to develop two way links with pupils & teachers. The hope is that these links will provide opportunities for Hertfordshire pupils to communicate directly, via email and later video conferencing, with Chinese pupils.

Watch this space for an illustrated diary of key events from the visit…... they do all speak English fluently in China, don't they?!

Review on the Visit to China

The teachers who visited schools in Gaungzhou over Easter had a very successful trip and a wonderful once-in-a-life-time experience.

The report has been sent off to the British Council.

Aims

The whole groups aims we have given our Chinese hosts for our visit

Theme: Productive use of ICT

  1. To observe the ICT capability of your pupils & teachers, examine how this has been achieved and how it may have benefited teaching & learning.
  2. To look at the area of 'whole school ICT development planning' and observe how these plans are sustained.
  3. To observe a range of subject lessons in which ICT is used and within a range of age groups.
  4. To look at the strategies used by your schools & educational support organisations, to train & support teachers with the pedagogical aspects involved in embedding ICT into the curriculum.
  5. Our group would like to establish links with the schools we visit in China. We would greatly value using the internet as a way of communicating with teachers and pupils, in order to find out about each others culture and way of life. We believe that this will lead to a genuine partnership that will enrich the teaching & learning within our schools.
