National Anti-bullying Week 2008 Resources: The Anti Bullying Alliance will be sending resources to all schools during September. They can also be downloaded from their website: Pointers: We know that bullies draw out perceived differences in others to pick on. This can be around race, religion, culture, size, appearance, sexuality, gender, social class, wealth or lack of it, learning ability or disability and anything else they can think of. Young carers, looked after children and other vulnerable groups are also at a higher risk of being bullied. We know that if children and young people, and indeed adults, respected and valued each others’ differences, they would be less likely to use them against the targets of their bullying behaviours. Similarly, if everyone felt confident and positive about their own ‘differences’, they would be less likely to bully others because they would feel better about themselves. Exploring this theme contributes to and links with the work schools can do to promote community cohesion. Diana Award & Diana Anti-bullying AwardDon’t forget to nominate outstanding peer supporters, fundraisers, school councillors, young carers, sports leaders, environmental campaigners, those that have overcome adversity, tackled bullying etc for the Diana Award and Diana Anti Bullying Award.
