Circus Skills Workshop |
This gives the children an opportunity to learn how to juggle, use the diabolo, devil sticks, spinning plates, walk on stilts / 1hr/ 30 |
Parachute Games |
Children play a wide variety of games using a parachute, mixing elements of fun while developing co-operative skills within the group / 1hr / 30 |
Assault Course |
This is a low level assault course with a variety of challenges for pupils of all ages. The session is introduced by Centre staff who will explain the safe use of the equipment / 1hr / 30 |
Habitat Walk |
This activity involves visiting a variety of locations on the site and looking for evidence of animals in their natural habitat and identifying trees / 1hr / 30 |
Shelter Building |
The children will build basic shelters to meet the survival needs described by the tutor / 1hr / 30 |
Mammal Trapping |
The children learn how to set up and then put out Longworth mammal traps. The children return to them after a few hours to discover what they have caught./

Water Bombs |
The children will make numerous origami water bombs and have a water fight together (depending on the weather) / 1hr / 30 |
Maths in the Environment |
Choose from measuring the girth of trunk and calculating tree age, measuring the height of trees and their canopy, measuring angles on trees and estimating distances / 1hr / 30 |
Literacy in the Environment |
Choose from Texture Scavenger Hunt, Poetry Trail, Alliteration and collective nouns, descriptive poetry, story telling / 1hr/ 30 |
Orienteering + Classroom |
The children will be able to identify map symbols, navigate
successfully using a map and complete a course suitable for their ability level / 1hr / 30 |
Orienteering Skills + Classroom |
The children will be introduced to the concept of aerial views, identify map symbols, set simple maps and be able to position on a map according to simple features / 1hr / 30 |
Woodland study |
The children will be able use simple id charts to identify trees, understand conditions needed for plant growth. The children will measure trees, as well as discovering the animals that live around it / 1 hr / 30 |
Stream study |
The children will measure the cross-section of the stream, identify signs of erosion and deposition, plan view sketch and grade (measure) the stream pebbles / 1 hr / 30 |
Harry Potter Trail + Classroom |
This involves the children using an orienteering map to discover Harry Potter questions out in the woodland / 1hr / 30 |
Art in the Environment |
Choose from Soil Painting, Recycled Paper, Natural Sculpture or the Greenman Mask / 1hour/ 30 |
Tracking |
The children split into two groups and one goes and lays out a trail made out of natural materials for the other group to follow and then hides. The other group has then got to follow the tracks to find them. They then swap over / 1hr / 30 |
Weather Study |
The children will be taught how to use various pieces of equipment such as an anemometer, rain gauge and thermometer. They will then use these on our weather trail / 1hr / 30 |

Up and Under Woodland Scramble Course |
