Sing Up Arrives in Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire Music Service is delighted to announce that we have been appointed Area Singing Leader for the new and exciting Music Manifesto National singing programme; Sing up.

Sing Up has been produced by Youth Music with AMV-BBDO, Faber Music Publishers and The Sage Gateshead, supported by Howard Goodall –the Singing Ambassador, and by Government.

Sing up aims to raise the status of singing and increase opportunities for primary school-aged children throughout England to enjoy singing as part of their everyday lives.

  • Sing Up aims to put high-quality everyday singing back into all English primary-age schools and the wider community.
  • Singing is shown to improve learning, behaviour, health and confidence, and it’s fun!
  • Singing unites pupils in schools, connects schools together, showcases school activities and raises standards.

University of Hertfordshire

In addition to this national campaign Hertfordshire Music Service has also embarked on an ambitious local initiative, funded by the University of Hertfordshire to support, nurture and develop singing with particular emphasis on Key Stage 1.

The combination of these two initiatives will enable the Music Service to develop a comprehensive programme of both singing experiences and CPD aimed specifically at classroom teaching and our first aim is invite expressions of interest from you, our schools and plan the first wave of delivery which will see 150 schools involved by the end of March 2008.

What do you need to do?

We are inviting all primary school in Hertfordshire to sign up nationally and register with us locally.

Signing up nationally means that you will:

  • Gain access to the downloadable audio files in the Song Bank.
  • Receive the free termly Sing Up Magazine, containing heaps of useful information and guidance, along with a collection of musical materials – songs, hints & tips and an accompanying CD.
  • Be kept up to date with the latest developments and opportunities from Sing Up.

Register with the Music Service by returning the form below by Friday December 7th. This is an expression of interest to be involved in the first wave of activity up to March 2008:

2 half days of Sing Up CPD aimed at primary classroom teaching, between which will sit a 5 weekly classroom sessions led by a member of our Vocal Animator Team courtesy of the Hertfordshire Singing Strategy.

Register with the Music Service in order to express interest in:

  • Your school staff to be involved in the Sing Up CPD programme
  • Your school to receive a series of 5 weekly visits by our Vocal Animator Team (funded by the University of Hertfordshire)

Sing Up - Gala Concert 2009

SingupAs part of our ongoing Sing Up work within in schools in Hertfordshire we are pleased to announce the 2009 Sing Up Gala Concerts. These will take place on the 17th of March at the Royal Albert Hall. There will be two concerts, one at 1.30 pm and one at 7.15 pm.
