Recent Events in East & Mid Hertfordshire26 June 2007 Mid Herts Wind Day Tuesday 3rd July 2007
50 primary school pupils joined forces with the Junior Wind Band of Simon Balle. They played a variety of music including Jurassic Park, The Flintstones and Mamma Mia. The conductors were Mrs C Taylor and Mr A Nunn with specialist Clarinet help given by Ms C Parker. There was also lots of valuable help given by current Simon Balle sixth formers. An enjoyable informal concert was given to parents late in the afternoon and all pupils were invited to join the SMMS Wind Orchestra or Hertford Wind Ensemble both of which rehearse on Saturday mornings at Simon Balle School. Friday 29th June - Mid Herts Wind Day(Pictures coming shortly) Over 150 pupils join us for the Mid Herts Wind Day on . We had players of all the woodwind and brass instruments and two percussion players. The day was kick-started with a vocal warm up by Rachel Dawson (singing strategy leader for Hertfordshire). The pupils were then split into four bands depending on how long they had been playing and rehearsals started. During the day every band had a half an hour djembe workshop with Dan Earley as well as three band rehearsals.
The Green Band played ‘Playing together, is better’ and ‘Ode to Joy’ conducted by Andy Martin and Philip Brunton The Yellow Band played ‘MacArthur Park’ and a world premiere composed by the band conducted by Dave Forbes and Derek Gledinning The Blue Band played ‘The Yellow Submarine’ and ‘The Pink Panther’ conducted by Steve Jenner and Shirani James The Red Band played ‘Theme from E.T.’ and ‘King of Pride Rock’ conducted by Al Nunn and Sue Pettitt The day ended with an informal concert to parents and carers. Every group played very well and showed the audience what they had achieved during the day.
We had seven senior students of the Mid Herts Centre for Music and Arts join us to gain experience from working with the staff and to help the pupils. These students moved between bands during the day and played in the concert. Many parents helped us in the registration process, at break and at lunchtime. Thank-you very much everyone who helped - the day would not happen without you. All of the administration was completed before the day by Nicky Reardon and Margaret Clark. Their hard work enabled the pupils to gain the maximum out of the day and for it to run smoothly. Thank-you to everyone involved - the day was a huge success and we enjoyed ourselves. |
