Annual Fourpartite Technology Project

Now in its nineteenth year!

Countries taking part

  • Hertfordshire (GB)

  • Burgundy (France)

  • Rheinland Pfalz (Germany)

  • Ringkjobing (Denmark)

Background

In 1984 the three counties of Hertfordshire, Burgundy and Rhineland Palatinate agreed to take part in an annual technology project. The projects have been run annually since then in turn amongst the participating countries. Denmark joined the project in 1994 and the, by then famous, Tripartite Technology Project became then Fourpartite Technology Project.

The 48 students (12 from each country) taking part in the project are aged from 17 to 20 depending on the educational system of their country. In each project the students work on one of 12 different problems that have included Computer Science, Electronics, Automation and many other engineering disciplines. Students taking part in this project are expected to have a good working knowledge of Physics, Mathematics and/or Design & Technology plus a working knowledge of one other language. Working in nationally mixed groups (one from each of the four countries) they are expected to develop and realise a solution to the problem they have been set.

On the final day of the project the results of the students work are presented to an invited group of experts from both education and industry.
