‘Sticks and Stones’ Forum theatre by ‘Actorshop’

Highly recommended for CPD for staff and awareness raising for pupils on equality and diversity.

“The bit I really liked was when the actors stayed in role and asked us some questions about how they should react to stuff that happens in the playground, like a argument between a white guy and a black guy. It opened my eyes to both sides. And it has helped me think through how I might approach a situation like that in future”. Year 10 student

‘Sticks and Stones’ is a piece of ‘Forum Theatre’ – the actors present a situation where an injustice has taken place and involve the audience in discussing and making decisions about how the action should progress and the injustice be challenged. Actorshop tailor the presentation to the age and circumstances of the audience.

The way in which ‘Sticks and Stones’ was used within one Authority is described in the Teachers’ Resource Handbook ‘here, there and everywhere : belonging, identity and equality in schools’ Derbyshire Advisory and Inspection Service Edited by Robin Richardson

Published by Trentham Books (2004) ISBN -13: 978-1- 8585- 343 -5
