A study of the practices that enable three schools in South Hertfordshire to outperform the local and national averages in raising achievement for pupils from Black backgrounds at the end of Key Stage 4.

Report of research, commissioned by the African Caribbean Achievement Network of secondary schools (ACAN) in Hertfordshire and conducted in three schools in Watford and Bushey.

It is noteworthy that these principles have been shown to hold good for any group that may be at risk of underachieving.

Part Two (Case Studies) provides detail and depth to the summary. The case study section shows how the principles are translated into practice in very varied ways in the three schools that were the subject of the research.

How We Are Making the Difference - Part 2 - Case Studies

The views and reflections of pupils, staff and parents provide an insight in particular into the relationships and structures that the schools have developed over time in order to support young people’s attainment and wellbeing.
