Ways of involving secondary students in their own learning and a tool for showing improvement in attitudes to learning.

In their latest OfSTED report
(June 2004) the Centre was described
as having ‘outstanding practice’ in teaching and learning.

chartOne of the ways of showing student success whilst working at the base is with the use of a questionnaire that the school has devised. Students reflect on their attitude to learning as they enter the base and use this to compare the way they feel as they leave. Students are encouraged to identify the things that have helped them change their views.

students chart The Centre has a number of aspects of interest:

  • The use of ICT across the curriculum
  • Students have control over logging their own data on attendance
  • Partnership with parents
  • Group meetings with ‘Circle of adults’ that support a young person
  • Breakfast ‘newspaper reading’ at Breakfast Club
  • Effective planning.
