Nursery Learning Record

The Hertfordshire Nursery Learning Record is intended for use as an initial assessment when a child enters the Nursery setting. Its joint purpose is to provide information to plan for learning and to provide an on-going record of the child’s progress in all 6 areas of learning.

The criteria for the Hertfordshire Nursery Learning Nursery Learning RecordRecord are drawn from the Stepping-Stones and Early Learning Goals in the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage (2000), and cover all the areas of learning:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Physical Development
  • Mathematical Development
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Creative Development

Clear links between the Hertfordshire Nursery Learning Record and the Foundation Stage Profile have been identified. The Hertfordshire document has been designed for Nursery staff to use flexibly and to provide valuable information that can be transferred to assist Reception teachers in the completion of the statutory Foundation Stage Profile.

The Hertfordshire Nursery Learning Record is available at a cost of £15 per Handbook (Hertfordshire LEA schools) and £20 plus postage and packing to Independent and other LEA schools. An optional individual record form is available at a cost of £1 each.
