Hertfordshire Learning to Learn CertificateWhat is it? Hertfordshire Local Authority Assessment Team launched the Learning to Learn Certificate in 2004, to accredit classes that have developed a learning culture, where pupils are actively involved in talking about and making choices about their learning. An assessor from the local authority visits the school to decide whether the children and teacher have met the criteria for the certificate. Children in the class have an opportunity to talk to the assessor about the things that help them learn in their classroom. As well as talking to the children, the assessor will look for evidence of a learning culture in children’s books, classroom display, teacher’s plans etc. S/he may take photographs of interesting ideas in the classroom. These will be put into a presentation file for the class. The assessment usually takes place in the summer term. There is a celebration meeting in the summer for two representatives from every class that has taken the certificate that year. This is held at Hertfordshire Development Centre. Each class has the opportunity to give a short presentation about the things they have been doing in their classroom.
