Art Display New June 2011

The art displays were worked on over a period of 4 - 5 hours each, with all members of each year group helping or producing part of the design. In each year group we looked and discussed the chosen image. The children then worked to produce the different elements required for each picture.

Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh

Each pupil painted a selection of strips of paper, using readimix paint, in shades of yellow. They then cut out petal shapes and made their own sunflower, adding the centre with scrunched up tissue paper.

Colours for a Large Wall by Ellsworth Kelly

Pupils started by painting 10 x 10cm  squares in a range of colours. When dry, these were cut up into smaller squares and reassembled on squares using tints and tones of the same colour. These multicoloured squares, along with black and white squares, were then reassembled to make the complete image.

The Waterlily Pond by Claude Monet
Pupils used PVA mixed with water to glue tissue paper onto an outline of the picture, layering the shades to build up the depth of colour needed.

Art project - Antarctica Updated

School Art Exhibition

Last December I travelled to Antarctica and wanted to inspire children about my journey. Over the last few weeks schools have used descriptions and photographs to create their own Antarctica pictures.

A selection of art work is now displayed at Robertson House.

Thank you so much to all the schools who took part. The artwork is stunning and the huge effort which has gone into producing them is very evident.

Summer Challenge (SSOSHL)

Traditionally it has been diffi cult to provide Study Support and Out of School Hours Learning activities in schools for children with learning diffi culties because the pupils are drawn from a wide geographical area and transport issues become a barrier. This project attempted to overcome this problem by providing a week long summer school of SSOSHL activity on the theme of developing friendship and team work, using the media of art and design. The programme was delivered in partnership with UFA (University of the First Age) and an external artist and took place at a school for pupils with MLD. More...
