Focused Learning Visits
In 2005/06, the then DfES established a programme of structured Learning Visits so that strategic planners and practitioners could visit areas where a great deal had been done, to learn about what has worked on delivering Diplomas in a range of settings.
Following the success of the first five Tranches of Learning Visits, the DCSF is offering a sixth Tranche between mid January and end March 2008. They will be hosted by a number of Consortia that were successful at the Gateway (including North Herts SAPG on 25th February).
Following demand, these will continue to be Focused Learning Visits on Diploma Delivery, including curriculum modelling. For further information:
Applied Learning
The 14-19 team in Hertfordshire are about to sign a further contract with LSN (Learning and Skills Network) to undertake project development from October 2007-March 2008. The main focus of this year’s project is to raise the achievement of vocational GCSEs through the engagement of employers and by considering different models of work experience. Mary Hurlstone (14-19 adviser) would be interested in hearing from any teacher who is delivering these qualifications with a view to establishing practical workshops to support the development of ‘real-life, work-context’ assignments for use with your students.
Please contact mary.hurlstone@hertscc.gov.uk or call her on: 07785 594701.
Post 16 Network Meetings
The 14 – 19 team will also be running a new series of network meetings specifically aimed at those in charge of Key Stage 5. These will provide an opportunity to hear the latest information regarding updates on post 16 developments, to share good practice and discuss current issues of the day.
