DCSF Framework for Sustainable Schools
The DCSF Framework is designed to help schools move towards becoming more sustainable to the benefit of children, communities and the environment.
It is based upon three principles:
- Firstly it is rooted in a commitment to care. Care for oneself, for others (across time and space) and care for the environment.
- Secondly it promotes an integrated approach between the campus, the curriculum and the community.
- Thirdly it uses a series of practical ‘doorways’ through which activities around sustainability can be undertaken.
These are:
- Food and drink
- Energy and water
- Travel and traffic
- Purchasing and waste
- Buildings and grounds
- Inclusion and participation
- Local well-being
- Global dimension
