HGfL: School Leadership: Hertfordshire Global & Sustainabe Schools

The Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) is a new mandatory carbon emissions trading scheme, which started in April 2010 that aims to increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the UK. The CRC will have financial and legal implications for local authorities and most schools in the UK.

Each year, the scheme will require qualifying local authorities to monitor, report on and (from April 2011), purchase carbon allowances to cover their ‘CRC emissions’, which includes emissions from all local authority maintained schools as well as voluntary aided, voluntary controlled, foundation schools and academies.

To comply with CRC requirements, schools have a statutory duty to provide the county council with information on school energy use. An information leaflet has been sent to schools introducing the scheme, highlighting the benefits of reducing emissions and providing instructions on the material schools will need to send to the local authority.

SALIX Loan Funding	Salix is a Government fund for loans to buy energy saving measures which allowing repayment through savings in bills. Applicable for new LED lighting, new boilers / boiler controls, insulation, voltage reduction, and other measures.
