Aspiring Hertfordshire Headteachers’ Programme

We are now recruiting for the September 2012 cohort of the Aspiring Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Headteachers’ Programme.

The programme is designed to support strong candidates who are committed to applying for headship in the near future or who have been identified as being potential headteachers and need a boost of confidence to apply. The initiative reflects national and local priorities by being specifically targeted at the primary school phase and is open to three categories:

  • NPQH graduates who are committed to actively seeking primary school headship with the next 6 – 18 months.
  • Primary teachers deemed by the LA and their school to be ready to apply for NPQH within the next academic year.
  • Primary teachers who have the potential to become headteachers in the next couple of years or are uncertain about the move to headship.

Impact data shows that the majority of participants are more confident to move into headships within a year of the programme and are more confident and competent in taking on the role. The system also benefits from the succession opportunities created by the placements and the shared learning across schools.
