School Improvement Partners in Secondary Schools

All Hertfordshire’s secondary schools will, from 1st September 2006, be allocated a School Improvement partner (SIP) as a part of a DfES initiative.  The SIP will be responsible for helping schools set challenging targets, carrying out the Joint Annual Review, and, probably, being the school’s external adviser in relation to the headteacher’s targets.

The DfES requires that 75% of SIPs are existing or recent headteachers, and a recruitment process to appoint such people from within and beyond Hertfordshire is well underway.  Existing secondary effectiveness advisers (some of whom are themselves recent headtachers) will be linked to some schools, particularly, but not exclusively, those who currently enjoy substantial support.

These effectiveness advisers will also co-ordinate support and quality ensure the work of the new SIPs who will largely work within a discrete area of Hertfordshire in line with the 14-19 strategic areas.
