Children still first in Hertfordshire
The Hertfordshire Children's Trust Partnership (HCTP) came to an end in June 2011 having successfully established and driven joint working arrangements and better outcomes for particularly the most vulnerable children and young people in the county.
HCTP made great progress in improving partnership working within the county and has laid an important foundation for children's services in Hertfordshire for the years to come. Partnership working to improve outcomes for children and young people continues as part of a new framework, when a Health and Well-Being Board is established as a county-wide commissioning body for health and care services for adults and children. (This change is part of a range of changes introduced by the Coalition Government)
Earlier this year the Department for Education announced that Children's Trusts were no longer a statutory requirement. In the light of this, the HCTP Executive agreed to cease HCTP in June this year, and its work (including the Children and Young People's Plan for 2011/12) will be taken forward through the Hertfordshire Health and Well-Being Board, which will include new commissioning and planning arrangements for Children's Services. The key priorities will include:
- children have a good start in life
- children and young people achieve well
- children and young people are safe from abuse and neglect
- children and young people thrive in spite of poverty
- children and young people's physical and mental health is well supported
