Audit Commission Survey of Schools 2007

Hertfordshire is working with the Audit Commission and Ofsted on the sixth national online School Survey in summer 2007.

Providing confidential feedback about councils’ and other local services for children and young people.

The aim of the School Survey is to collect information on your views of the services and support provided, or procured for schools, by your county council. This includes the whole council, not just the education service.  It is also to gain your views on the services provided locally for children and young people.

We believe this is an important opportunity to identify services which can be improved as well as those which are performing well. The information is used to help our self-evaluation and inform future plans. Last year’s results were used this year for our Joint Area Review inspection and Annual Performance Assessment. The results also allow us to compare our schools’ views of our services with those of schools in other councils. A summary of the results can be found in the Director’s Annual Report: standards and quality in Hertfordshire schools.

Last year 31% of schools responded to the survey. We would really like to increase the participation rate and would urge as many schools as possible to respond to enable a more complete picture of your views.

The information you provide will be confidential to the Audit Commission. Unless you give permission for your school to be identified to us, your responses will be kept anonymous and we will receive only aggregated information on our schools’ views from the Audit Commission as well as anonymised comments. This information will be a key source of feedback about our support for schools and will be taken into account in reviewing our services this year.

When and How to Contribute

The survey will be open for six weeks from 4 June to 13 July 2007. During this time it will be available on the Audit Commission website at:

Audit Commission’s ‘Guide for schools’

You will be able to access the survey from any computer using your LEA and school establishment numbers. The website will provide full instructions for completing and submitting the survey directly to the Audit Commission. If you have difficulty accessing the Internet at a specific computer please contact School IT Systems Support, Tel: 01582 830310 - *5 or *6, or your network support provider. If you have no access to the Internet on any computers please contact the NTL helpdesk.

The results will be available to us in the autumn term 2007, after which we will report back to schools in the Director’s Annual Report: standards and quality in Hertfordshire schools.

We hope you will take this opportunity to contribute your views by completing the questionnaire. It is important to us that as many schools as possible participate.
