The Personal Education Plan (PEP) is a statutory requirement and is designed to plan the progress and improvement strategy for a looked after child.

A PEP meeting brings together all the important people in the child’s life - the social worker, the carers, the designated teacher and other significant professionals and where appropriate, the child. The PEP meeting will develop a plan to support the educational progress of the child and assign responsibility in a clear action plan. The social worker will arrange for this group to meet within 14 days of the child coming into care.  The PEP must be reviewed termly and at significant points of change in the child or young person’s life.

The Hertfordshire PEP has been designed to capture the young person’s views on their education and provide base line achievement data so that clear targets can be made by the designated teacher for CLA to realise the learning potential of the young person.
