Networked ComputersNetworked computers provide excellent facilities for whole class teaching and learning, giving benefits of shared files, the internet and printers. Choices range from a basic peer-to-peer system, to the sophisticated client/server system such as RM Connect 3. Choosing and commissioning a new network; extending or upgrading existing equipment; or simply replacing a fileserver so that your systems are suitable for future requirements is a complicated process of decision-making, leading to significant investment. In addition to the hardware purchase and/or leasing costs, you will need to take into account what software you will be using; how your systems will be managed and supported in the future; and on-going training costs. These web-pages inform you of various considerations to take into account, and they advise on a number of options suitable for schools, including support services provided by SITSS. The SITSS Network Support team will be pleased to discuss your school's particular needs, with relation to future government requirements. Simply e-mail sitss.network@lea.herts.sch.uk providing full contact details and suggesting times when you can be contacted.
