About - Timetable and Curriculum Organisation Suite

Nova –T4.

This module is the traditional SIMS timetabling tool. Many schools still use this module to construct their timetable. SIMS have stated that this module will be active until July 2008. It should be used in all SIMS schools for printing timetables, set lists and arranging Staff cover. It is a powerful and flexible tool which allows you to define and schedule a curriculum plan for each year group from information as basic as a list of teachers, subjects, rooms and the timetable cycle.

Cover

Currently accessed from within Nova-T4, this module assists with the administration of absent teachers’ classes and examinations, (taking account of on-roll, agency and other supply staff.). PPA time can also be marked and protected and reports can be run showing the amount of cover individual teachers have been asked to undertake.

Modelling and Construction

This module will cease to be available from this September. It has been superseded by Nova-T6

Nova-T6

This module is accessed from within Nova-T4. This is the recommended timetabling tool for SIMS schools. With its innovative drag and drop interface, Nova-T6 helps you plan, analyse, cost and compare timetable solutions. There are many advantages over Nova-T4 that with planning reduces the need for manual checking of certain timetable restrictions. It offers a choice of manual or automatic scheduling, and has optimisation routines to measure and improve the quality of your timetable. It can easily be used by a Timetabler on a standalone machine.

Academic Management

Accessed from within SIMS.net, Academic Management helps schools to organise the student’s curriculum. There are routines for transferring class memberships from one academic year to another, randomly allocating students to classes and managing a carousel situation. All class changes are date stamped thus allowing tracking of set changes. The information is then used in other areas of the software especially Assessment Manager, Exams Organiser, Profiles and Lesson Monitor.

Options

This module is designed to help simplify the Options process within schools. It comes into its own when you run an open Options system, helping you to design the option blocks based on student choices. It can also be used to help produce class lists if you use a closed options system where you have defined the option blocks before students make their choices.
