Upgrades

SIMS Autumn 2011 Upgrade

We are pleased to let you know that the SIMS Autumn 2011 Upgrade is now available to apply via SOLUS 2. This upgrade will be required to enable schools to complete the Spring School Census for your phase on 19th January 2012 so must be applied BEFORE then.

Additional Important Release Information

Any new functionality or issues identified with the release will be noted here and you should make sure that these are passed on to the person who deals with this particular area of the software in your school.

InTouch

If you use InTouch you will need to install the InTouch Web Server Component upgrades immediately AFTER the SIMS upgrade, or InTouch will stop working. You will have been sent instructions by Capita on how to carry out this additional upgrade.

Discover

The SIMS Discover Autumn 2011 Upgrade is now available. If you have Discover installed we will be emailing you separately with details on how to download and upgrade Discover.

SIMS Learning Gateway (SLG)

We have completed the SLG upgrade and so you are able to process the SIMS Autumn 2011 Upgrade at your school now.

Cover

When assigning a member of staff to a class using the resolve conflict process the class shows as a clash on the staff’s timeline. The member of staff will need to right click and select the relevant class to take the register. We are awaiting a patch from Capita.

Detect timetable changes routine does not highlight all room closures or exam assignments. There is a change request logged with Capita for this.

Home page

My Classes Timeline – the right click functionality has been reversed; Class List takes the member of staff to the Student List Reporting Area and Student List takes them to a class list. This logged with Capita and is under investigation.

Student Details – Reason for Leaving

The list of available Reasons for Leaving in the School History panel in Student Details has been amended in accordance with DfE guidelines and so the options you normally use may have changed, e.g. “School Transfer (Mid-Year)” is now “In-year transfer – Maintained school”, etc.

POST UPGRADE TASKS

Importing Updated Reports

After the upgrade has completed, log into SIMS and select the menu options Reports > Import. Click on the Open icon then navigate to the Sims .net folder (this will usually be in D:\Sims-SP or D:\Program Files on a server). Find and select the file named PreDefined_Reports_v7142.RptDef and click Open. Click Import to import the latest reports into SIMS. Once the reports have been imported, the 'status' column will change from 'pending' to 'imported'. Click Close.

 

Discover in schools only...

The Discover installation files have been zipped using 7-Zip and are Password Protected. If you have already installed Discover in your school, SITSS will send you the password via email at the same time as they send the email advising that the SIMS Autumn 2011 upgrade is available. SIMS and Discover need to be at the same release for the transfer of data to take place.

The Discover product is included in your current SIMS licence. SITSS are managing the release of Discover and are currently making it available for any Secondary or Middle schools that have identified they meet the hardware requirements (see Server & Workstation requirements for Discover document). A pilot for Primary schools will be run during the Spring 2012 term.

  • To upgrade your existing version of Discover please print the 'Upgrading Discover to Autumn 2011' document.
  • To install Discover please raise a case with the SITSS Service desk requesting the password. Once you have been gfiven the password please print the 'Installing Discover Autumn 2011' document.
