Primary Assessment Manager
Assessment Manager 7 (AM7)
AM7 is the ideal tool for recording your pupils' assessments in a seamless manner. This module provides a means of recording a pupil's marks, grades and other scores to meet the school's day-to-day assessment needs and the statutory assessment requirements of the National Curriculum. It supports good practice in all schools since it can be used in conjunction with a consistent whole-school assessment policy.
Some of the benefits of using Assessment Manager in your school:
- Maintains a historical record of individual assessments over time allowing powerful analysis of that data.
- Facilitates the monitoring and tracking of pupil attainment over time.
- 'Offline' data entry is available after Assessment Manager Marksheets have been exported to Excel spreadsheets. These are easily imported back into the system
In addition to this, SITSS have created a set of templates, in conjunction with the Primary strategy advisors and the Assessment team, which can be imported into AM7, and once marksheets have been created then assessments can be entered for each of the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms for English, Maths, Science and ICT. This data can then be analysed and reported on in a variety of ways simply by running SIMS reports. These reports generate numbers of children at each level, plus distribution sheets showing the children’s names, as well as graphs and progress tracking reports, all with just a few clicks of a mouse! These reports will be of particular use to head teachers, assessment coordinators, teachers and governors.
Any school who is interested in learning more about AM7 should contact the MIS Service Desk on 01438 844777 choosing option 1, then option 1 again for further information.
Case Studies
The following Case Studies demonstrate how AM7 can be managed in different environments, and how it has helped to identify areas of concern leading to a significant impact on learning.
Case Study 1 – how AM7 has been used with teachers having direct access to SIMS in the classroom
Case Study 2 – how AM7 has been managed using exported marksheets

Tracking Grids
Tracking Grid Templates are now available to download. These Grids can be used to create Distributions Sheets, like the HCC reports, but have the added advantage that you can filter them by SEN, Ethnicity, FSM etc. Please read the instructions for information on downloading, importing and using the Grids. You only need to import the file applicable to your school phase. (Reminder: these are imported via the menu route Routines > Data In > Performance Analysis > Import)
Tracking grids for the separate attainment strands of Maths and for ICT and the Other Curriculum subjects are available on request - please email sitss.mis@lea.herts.sch.uk if you need these grids.
KS2 Target Setting
This is no longer statutory, and the data will NOT be collected, but if you wish to record and analyse targets please follow the instructions below.
Missing Keystage 1 data
This document describes how you can retrieve KS1 data for pupils who have entered your school after Year 2 from the Key To Success website.
KS2 Analysis Report
This report, produced in conjunction with the Assessment team, analyses progress from KS1 Teacher Assessments to KS2 Tests. You must have imported your KS2 Test results, including the test scores (available from the Key to Success web site) into SIMS first. Instructions for this are included in the Returning KS2 Teacher Assessments document (ref S1165) sent out to all primary schools, and also available here:
Please see the document below for instructions on how to download and import the report file, and how to run the report. The report includes a number of different sheets each providing a different approach to analysing your KS2 results. Full guidance on this, as well as how to filter by vulnerable groups, is included in the document.

IMPORTANT: this report was amended on 18th July 2011 to correct an issue with pupils marked with an N on the Tests. If you downloaded the report before that date, please download and import again if you have any such pupils. Following feedback from schools, the Attendance sheet data has also been extended to show numbers of pupils, and to allow analysis by vulnerable group.
Recording Foundation Stage Profile in SIMS Assessment Manager 7 (AM7) NEW
SITSS have created templates which will allow schools to record Foundation Stage Profile scores in SIMS AM7 up to 3 times a year. If schools choose to use these they should be used alongside, not instead of, tracking of progress against the ‘Ages and Stages’ (EYFS toolkit). The new EYFSP templates may also be useful for schools who have previously used eProfile but no longer wish to do so.
We have also created some basic reports to pull out the data for the cohort as well as for individual children. Please read the instructions on how to import the new templates and reports.
EYFS Progress & Phonic Phases Toolkits
These toolkits can be purchased as additions to Assessment Manager 7, providing similar functionality as the other resources we provide to you for tracking pupil progress and attainment. Please contact the SITSS MIS Service Desk for more details if you wish to purchase either toolkit.
EYFS Progress Toolkit
SITSS have been working with the Early Years Team to create a new toolkit within Assessment Manager 7, facilitating schools in the tracking of pupil progress across the 'Ages and Stages' development statements in the EYFS.
This toolkit:
- Demonstrates progress across the six areas of learning in the EYFS
- Tracks individuals and cohorts from entry across the Foundation Stage
- Shows which 'age and stage' band they are working within
- Shows whether the cohort or individual achievement is below, within or beyond expectation
- Calculates cohort attainment (%)

Assessment Summary Sheet
This report has been created so you can collate your judgements made from the Observational Assessment sheets as to which Age and Stage each pupil is working within, making the process of entering the data into Assessment Manager 7 more manageable.
Phonic Phases Toolkit
Working with the CLLD team, SITSS have created a set of templates which can be used to record Phonic Phase levels for pupils in years Reception to Year 6. The accompanying reports display Distribution Sheets that provide a visual representation of the progress made by the pupils, along with some further analysis reports.
