Safeguarding/ Single Central Record (archived Sept 2008)

By the 1st April 2007 schools should have put in place a complete and up to date single central record.  The record should be in the format shown on P.48 of the Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education document

Getting your Safeguarding Checks on Staff up to Date - For Headteachers

Further to the DfES requirement for all schools to compile a single central record of checks undertaken for all people working in or with the school, the DfES sent a letter on the 31st October to all schools with instructions on how to complete any checks necessary to fill the gaps on their record.

The documents below summarise the actions you need to take:

Schools will need to download a copy of the spreadsheet above:

  • click on the link to the spreadsheet above to open the spreadsheet
  • Click on on File, Save As and save the file to a location on your pc
  • rename the file to list99_schoolname.xls

Complete the spreadsheet and email back to schoolsdata.infobox@hertscc.gov.uk

DFES Guidance issued for Parent Volunteers

We are issuing this guidance in the light of the CRB’s experience to date, our own work in analysing education-related applications, and after consultation with a range of education bodies including teacher unions.

 

Changes for Governors

It has recently been announced by the CRB and the DfES that CRB checks for new and re-appointed/ elected governors are temporarily suspended due to the workload at the CRB. The situation for checking staff and parent volunteers remains unchanged.

 

CRB Disclosures - Guidance Update No. 2

We have had further contact with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the DfES. It is now a certainty that a large number of CRB checks will not be completed by next week.

 

Letter from Estelle Morris, Secretary of State for Education

This letter apologises for the recent disruption to schools, and discusses the level of appropriate supervision for staff that begin work before their full CRB Disclosure is received.

You should be able to make any changes to these to suit the requirements of your school and the specific recruitment exercise.
