Offsite Visits - Insurance

Insurance for offsite visits can be arranged in several ways; either via the tour operator or provider, or by one of the policies offered through Herts County Council.

Most schools buy into HCC's Annual Travel Scheme, operated by Chartis Insurance (policy no. 0010565515) under newly renegotiated terms which provides comprehensive cover for virtually all conceivable aspects of offsite visits and activities, including Winter Snow Sports and SCUBA Diving, and curtailment due to disruptive student behaviour. Full details can be found in the linked documents. NB This is not available to schools that have opted to become Academies.

For one-off or individual events, cover can be arranged under the School Journey Insurance (policy no. SJ19AA020126) operated by Zurich. This is generally used by Youth Connexions Hertfordshire establishments and some schools who do not subscribe to the County's Annual Travel Scheme.

Residential establishments for looked after children and other Social Services are usually covered by the County's Holiday Travel Scheme for Social Services' Clients (policy no. QLA19AA02/0013) operated Zurich.

Staff arranging trips should be aware that they may not need to purchase any additional insurance offered by their tour operator or specialist provider and this may represent a significant saving on the overall cost of the trip to the young people and their families/carers.

Any queries relating to insurance for offsite visits should be made to either Lynne Apostolos or Helen Thompson on 01992 555480 or by email at insurance@hertscc.gov.uk
