Harnessing Technology Grant 2008/09

Additional Harnessing Technology Funding for ICT in Schools 2008/09 updated 18/06/2008

Further to the school bulletin item w/c 28 April 2008, we can now confirm that the additional funding has been devolved to schools and should be in your account.  Priorities for use of the funding are that all proposed purchases should benefit learners and the educational process, and be spent on ICT hardware based on school level ICT needs and priorities.

To support schools with identifying the most useful way to use this funding, the ICT Team and School IT Systems Support (SITSS) have worked with Hertfordshire Supplies to produce a list of recommended ICT equipment that can be purchased through the Harnessing Technology Grant.

Additional Harnessing Technology funding for ICT in Schools 2008/09

The ICT in Schools funding arrangement changed for 2008/09, and a new capital grant called Harnessing Technology now subsumes the previous grants for ‘Connectivity and Learning Systems’, and ‘eLearning Credits’.

We received news just before Easter of additional ICT funding which means we will be able to devolve further funding to you this year for capital expenditure.

We intend to supplement this new grant with savings achieved on the recent extension of the NTL and RM contracts. Schools will receive an amount of funding directly into their account to spend on ICT hardware, and will also receive a list of recommended ICT hardware that can be purchased through Herts Business Services at a best value price.  Schools will also be free to spend the funding through a supplier of their own choice.

Further details on when this money will be distributed, the schools allocation of funding, and guidelines on expenditure, will follow by the end of the month.

Additional Devolved Funding for ICT in Schools

We are pleased to inform you that as a result of contract savings and efficiencies within centrally funded ICT services, schools should receive additional funding for ICT directly into their budgets in December 2007.
