Exclusions Guidance for Schools Updated
The HCC exclusion guidance has been updated and includes new standard format letters to be used by all Hertfordshire schools in matters relating to school exclusion. These letters have been checked by our legal department to ensure compliance with DfE and statutory requirements. Schools should replace the former standard letters with the updated versions immediately. More

School Meal Provision for Pupils with Allergies
Following some serious incidents, arrangements have now been revised regarding school meal provision for pupils with allergies. We are aware that schools work very hard to ensure that all pupils are safe; however the importance of schools following the procedures cannot be over-emphasised, as in the most serious scenario a pupil being served the incorrect food could result in a fatality. Using Video Conferencing for Distance Learning at ‘A’ Level
The Hertfordshire & Essex High School in Bishop’s Stortford is a girls’ secondary school with just over 1000 students on roll. The school has used video conferencing through the Hertfordshire Grid for Learning for a number of years, for different educational projects. During this time it has established the delivery of some ‘A’ Level subjects through distance learning providers, using video conferencing for regular tutorials between the teachers and students. We have formed a new alliance with Dave Parry who is an independent consultant for Design and Technology. He is available to support individual schools and is running some D&T courses for us this year. The Primary D&T Conference 30th November 2011 and Secondary Subject Leader Day on 4th November 2011. We are committed to improving and developing the involvement of young people and their families in transition and are committed to embedding a person centred multi agency approach.
From September 2011 all young people with SEND should have access to a Person Centred Plan from Year 9 which will underpin and inform the transition planning documentation. More

BTEC Point Scores and PI Data
On import of BTEC Results to SIMS, some BTEC qualifications have no point score associated with them and are therefore not being counted in the PI calculations, although the awarded grades are appearing in the result reports. In other cases, the point scores are being counted in PI but are incorrect. Capita are aware of the issues and are investigating. Download further advice (pdf)
