HGfL Discussion Forums

Introduction

A number of discussion forums operate on the Hertfordshire Grid for Learning. They are web-based and are available both inside and outside of Hertfordshire schools. There are a number of restrictions on the setting up and use of discussion forums:

  1. They are set up on the instigation of a group of individuals or people who are co-ordinating a particular area of education across Hertfordshire.
  2. Access to the forums is usually restricted to those who are invited. The list of those who are invited is often defined by those who establish the forums.
  3. Anyone who becomes a member of the forum system is restricted to certain forums only. This facilitates confidential discussions between certain groups.
  4. Forums are not necessarily a cure-all for working with groups of people via the Internet. Email lists are also implemented and often provide a more convenient method of communicating with groups of individuals.

Types of Forum

There are two types of forum on HGfL - private or protected.

Private Forums

Each Private Forum is created for a specific group of users. You will need to have a username and password set up and that username will need to be granted access to the private forum by the administrator. If you feel that you should have access to a private forum, please contact the forum administrator.

Protected Forums

The protected forums allow you to self register and set up your own username and password. Where applicable, please use a name indicating your Hertfordshire school. HGfL reserves the right to remove any self registered users.

If you are already a member of a private forum and have been given a username and password, you do not need to register again to join a protected forum. Your user name and password will apply to those private forums you have permission to access and any protected forums you might wish to join.

Forums are moderated. Please respect the views and experience of other people.
